Welcome to the online home of the Foothills Weather Net.  The Foothills Weather Net exists to observe severe weather and report those observations so that accurate and timely warnings may be issued to the general public.  

The Foothills Weather Net was created specifically to fill the need for spotters in the following counties:  Burke, Caldwell, Cleveland, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford.  If you are a weather spotter in this area and would like to participate in our weather nets, please join us on the repeater at 147.255.  Even if you are not a licensed amateur radio operator, you can still listen on a scanner. 

The majority of the spotters in the Foothills Weather Net have been trained through the National Weather Service SKYWARN (tm) program and are certified SKYWARN spotters. 

Many of our spotters are also licensed amateur radio (ham) operators.  Being a ham radio operator is a great help, but it is not required.
