Become a Spotter
Are you interested in becoming an 'official SKYWARN spotter? No problem. Here are some common questions...
Q: Do I have to be a licensed amateur radio operator?
A: No. Being a licensed amateur radio operator is not required. However, having a license and access to the local weather nets provide you with many opportunities not afforded to those who are not radio operators including, in many cases, real time communications directly with the national weather service.
Q: Are there classes I must attend?
A: If you observe severe weather, you are encouraged to report it. The classes train you so that you know what you are looking at.
Q: How often are classes available?
A: We are planning to offer different SKYWARN classes each calendar quarter. You can never train enough!
Q: How can I learn more about participating in SKYWARN or the Foothills Weather Net?
A: We're glad you asked! All you need to do is email
